Your practitioner will explain what Dermal Filler option is best for your requirements and how you can expect to look after having the procedure. Your practitioner will discuss with you the various injectable Dermal Filler products that are available and will advise on the type/s that would most benefit you. Your consultation will also include a very careful examination of your face and a discussion of your medical history.

The Procedure for Dermal Fillers

It is usual for a local anaesthetic to be used when Dermal Fillers are placed. This is usually in the form of small injections of anaesthetic often like when you have a filling at your dentist. Alternatively Emla cream is used which is a local anaesthetic cream used to numb the area.

The Dermal Filler is gently injected into the dermis of the skin to reduce the depth of the skin crease and your surgeon will customise the exact depth and number of injections to give you the most natural result. Different Dermal Fillers can be used to further enhance the effect.

Questions and Answers

How long does it take for the treatments to work?

The procedure takes about 10-20 minutes and the results are apparent straight away.

What can and can't I do after the treatment?

You can carry on life as normal. You should leave the treated area alone for 48 hours to let it settle. It is advisable to not have a facial or similar treatment that may disturb the products or expose the newly-treated areas to strong direct sunlight for 2-3 days.

How long does the treatment last for?

For about 6-9 months.

How often will I need to top up?

Most patients have top-ups when they feel the effect is starting to wear off ie any time between 6 and 12 months.

Are there any side-effects?

After the treatment there may be some redness and minimal swelling, which normally settles in 1-2 days. Very occasionally patients can suffer some bruising at the injection site.

Who is suitable for these treatments?

Almost all adults can have Dermal Fillers placed.

What happens if I do not have a top-up?

Correction of the wrinkles and the enhanced lip effect will subside gradually until your skin looks like it did before the treatment.

Are there any long-term problems?

No, because it is completely natural and over time can be completely broken down by the body.
