Your Otoplasty Consultation

Your consultation will be with one of our experienced patient co-ordinators and cosmetic nurses who will explain the otoplasty procedure fully and discuss your expectations and the outcome you will achieve. They will arrange an appointment for you to meet with your Surgeon before your otoplasty procedure who will explain what option is best for your requirements and how you can expect to look after having the procedure, and will discuss the associated risks and alternatives.

The Procedure for Otoplasty

Your otoplasty procedure may be conducted to meet aesthetic goals and can be performed either under local anestheic where you are awake or under general anesthetic which means you are asleep. The otoplasty procedure normally requires an hour in surgery depending on your individual requirements.

Recovery from Otoplasty

You will need to rest after your otoplasty procedure until the effects of the anaesthetic have passed and general painkillers can be used if needed.

You will need to make arrangements to be driven home. Before you leave, your Nurse will advise you about your healing time and will arrange a follow up appointment for you. This is usually about 2 weeks after your otoplasty procedure.

FAQ

Will there be scarring and/or swelling?
Most cosmetic otoplaty incisions are made behind the ear which means the scars are not normally in view and will heal and fade with time. This will vary from person to person. It is also usual for the ears to be slightly swollen and bruised when the bandages are first removed although this should return to normal over the next couple of weeks.

How long will the results last?
Following a successful otoplasty procedure you can expect a more 'normal' shape with ears being positioned more closely against the head. Otoplasty produces permanent results and your newly sculpted ears will be improved forever.

Can I go back to my normal routine after my otoplasty procedure?
Most people can go back to their normal routine once their Surgeon has seen them for their post operative appointment Most people feel ready to go out and back to work about 7 days after the otoplasty procedure but should avoid sport and strenuous exercise for up to 6-8 weeks.
