Eye Lid Surgery

Look alive and vibrant. Blepharoplasty can help restore a more energetic and youthful appearance.

As men age, folds of excess skin can form under and around your eyes making you appear older than you are. This is caused by the natural weakening of skin over time, causing a loss of elasticity and support, with upper eyelids beginning to sag, sometimes badly enough that your vision is affected. The eye bags and sagging skin usually get larger with age causing you to look tired and can lower your self confidence and self esteem.

The blepharoplasty procedure caters for your needs to correct sagging and drooping eyelids, remove bags beneath the eyes, and reduce excess folds of skin around the eyes.

Treatment can be carried out on your upper and lower eyelids, separately or at the same time to help give you a more rested and youthful appearance. Your eyes and your whole face will look more alert, awake and alive.

About the Procedure

Is Blepharoplasty Right for You?

Suitability for a blepharoplasty procedure can be discussed with your Surgeon and at your consultation but experience has taught us that the best outcome from a blepharoplasty procedure is in our patients who:

  • Have a family history of droopy, baggy eyelids
  • Appear older than they naturally are because of drooping eyes
  • Have developed loose skin around the eye area
  • Look like there eyes have ‘hooded' look

Your Blepharoplasty Consultation

Your consultation will be with one of our experienced Patient Co-ordinators and cosmetic nurses who will explain the blepharoplasty procedure fully and discuss your expectations and the outcome you will achieve. They will arrange an appointment for you to meet with your Surgeon before your blepharoplasty procedure who will explain what option is best for your requirements and how you can expect to look after having your blepharoplasty procedure, and will discuss the associated risks and alternatives.

The Procedure for Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty may be performed as a day case, but an overnight stay in hospital is sometimes required.

The blepharoplasty procedure can be done under general anaesthetic, which means you will be asleep during the procedure and will feel no pain. Alternatively, it can be performed under local anaesthetic, in which case the area around your eyes will be numb but you will be awake.

Your surgeon will advise which type of anaesthetic is most suitable for you.

Recovery From Blepharoplasty

You will need to rest after your blepharoplasty procedure until the effects of the anaesthetic have passed and general painkillers can be used if needed.

You will need to make arrangements to be driven home. Before you leave, your Nurse will advise you about your healing time and will arrange a follow up appointment for you. This is usually about 1 week after your blepharoplasty procedure.

Your Comprehensive Aftercare

We offer an unrivalled level of post-operative patient care after your blepharoplasty procedure with a 24 hour medical helpline. We are dedicated in ensuring a fast recovery and our extensive aftercare package is available to you at no extra costs and covers all post-operative blepharoplasty instructions, care leaflets and information, as well as all follow-up appointments with your Surgeon.

FAQ

Will there be bruising and/or scarring after my blepharoplasty procedure?

Bruising varies from person to person and generally lasts from about two to four weeks. The stitches will be removed four days to a week after surgery when the swelling and discoloration around your eyes will then gradually subside and you'll start to look and feel much better.

How long will the effects last?

The effects of your blepharoplasty procedure will result in a more alert and youthful look-will last for years. For many people, these results are permanent.

Can I go back to my normal routine?

Most people can go back to their normal routine once their Surgeon has seen them for their post operative appointment Most people feel ready to go out and back to work about 7 to 10 days after their blepharolasty procedure. By then, depending on your rate of healing and your doctor's instructions, you'll probably be able to wear makeup to hide the bruising that remains. You may be sensitive to sunlight, wind, and other irritants for several weeks, so you should wear sunglasses and a special sunblock made for eyelids when you go out.
